Stan Ascher is always looking towards the future..
As the first convergence director of the North Texas Daily, the online student newspaper of the University of North Texas, Stan brought in twice the amount of hits to the paper’s web site by increasing its interactivity, multimedia presentation and friendliness to the user. He implemented strategies to bring the website up to 508 compliance standards.
Stan first started with multimedia presentation while attending Richland College in Dallas, TX. He sent out a weekly podcast of notes to the members of his class and to the disability office where students with reading disabilities could access the audio files via email. The subscriber list topped 100 users and Stan was awarded several scholarships for his efforts.
As his interest in multimedia production grew, so did his experience.Stan graduated from Richland College with an Associate’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and honors from Phi Theta Kappa. He also gained the experience of being a live sound engineer, lighting technician and sound designer for their theater department. On top of that, he was also a staff writer for their newspaper and camera operator for Richland’s television program.
Stan graduated from the University of North Texas in May of 2009 with a degree in journalism and business management. He was inducted into the Tau Sigma Academic Honor Society and has received a large scholarship from the school’s journalism department. .While in school, he worked three jobs, one as an intern for Pegasus News, another as an intern for Palestra.net and lastly, Stan worked at the UNT Gateway Center as a house manager. He volunteered his time to the Texas Reading and Radio Resource of the Blind, where he edited audio books for people with reading impairments.
To help him pay his way through school, Stan ran his own business, DTX Soundlab, a multi-track recording studio that specializes in going on location to record big acts like orchestras, choirs and jazz bands.
He now lives in Alexandria, VA and works for JBS International Inc as an instructional designer while pursing opportunities to advance his journalism career.
